Department of Kayachikitsa

About the Department

Department of Kayachikitsa The Department of Kayachikitsa deals with the branch of internal medicine in Ayurveda, focusing on the prevention and management of systemic diseases through classical principles of Doṣa-Dūṣya Sammūrchana, Agni, Āma, and Srotas. Rooted in the teachings of Ācārya Caraka, it emphasizes rational diagnosis and individualized treatment based on Nidāna Pañcaka and Samprāpti. The department provides specialized treatment for gastrointestinal disorders such as Agnimāndya, Amlapitta, Grahaṇī, Arśa (medical management), and Udara roga through Dīpana-Pācana, Śamana and Śodhana therapies. Metabolic disorders including Madhumeha (diabetes mellitus), Sthaulya (obesity), dyslipidemia, and thyroid dysfunctions are managed with classical formulations, Pathya-Āpathya regulation, and lifestyle correction. Chronic systemic disorders like Āmavāta (rheumatoid arthritis), Sandhivāta (osteoarthritis), Gridhrasī (sciatica), and Vātarakta (gout) are treated through internal medications, Panchakarma procedures, and Rasāyana therapy.

The department also treats skin diseases (Kuṣṭha, Eka-kuṣṭha, Śvitra), respiratory disorders (Śvāsa, Kāsa, allergic conditions), and neurological disorders (Pakṣāghāta, Ardita, Kampavāta). Special care is provided for liver disorders, renal disorders, autoimmune conditions, and lifestyle diseases using an integrated approach of Śamana, Śodhana (Panchakarma), and rejuvenative therapies. Psychological disorders including Unmāda, Apasmāra, Anidrā, and Chittodvega are managed through Satvavajaya Cikitsā along with medicinal support. The department also offers preventive healthcare through Dinacharya, Ritucharya counseling, Rasāyana, and Vajīkaraṇa therapy for health promotion and immunity enhancement. The department is equipped with well-established facilities including its own OPD, IPD, Panchakarma theatre, therapy units, and dedicated counseling and diet-regimen guidance sections.
